Head of Actuarial Function
As part of the governance framework, you will hold one of the four independent control functions within the second line of defense (LoD), reporting directly to the Chief Risk Officer (CRO).
Your Mission
- Review, advise on, and report actuarial calculations.
- Assess and provide opinions on technical provisions and evaluate data quality.
- Collaborate with the Risk Manager to analyze reserving and pricing risks.
- Work closely with the Head of Reserving and the Quantitative Risk Manager within the Actuarial Department.
Your Responsibilities
- Act as the contact person for supervisory authorities on technical provisions, reinsurance policy, and pricing.
- Conduct quarterly assessments of technical provision estimates.
- Review pricing processes for new products conducted by the first line of defense.
- Evaluate general tariff increases and profitability analyses from the first LoD.
- Assess technical provisions forecasts, including ORSA.
- Coordinate technical provision calculations and assess data quality, ensuring that IT systems and AI tools support actuarial processes effectively.
- Ensure that actuarial methodologies, models, and assumptions used in calculations are appropriate.
- Inform the Board of Directors and Management Committee about the reliability and adequacy of technical provision calculations.
- Provide expert opinions on underwriting policies and reinsurance arrangements.
- Take responsibility for actuarial reports and support the Qualitative Risk Manager with expertise and guidance.
- Fluent in English and Dutch or French, with a good understanding of the other language.
- Degree in Actuarial Sciences.
- Meets the Fit & Proper requirements of the National Bank of Belgium (NBB).
- Minimum of 5 years of actuarial experience (including Solvency II calculations) in non-life insurance.
- Ability to work independently while remaining a team player.
- Advanced Excel proficiency (VBA knowledge is a plus).
- Strong analytical mindset and ability to simplify complex concepts for non-experts.
- A problem-solving approach, with a keen attention to detail.
- Open to learning, self-improvement, and personal development.
- Pragmatic, open to feedback, and constructively critical.
